Carefree Highway Bridge Transition Slabs

Project #: MB2603

Project Description

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is making improvements to the eastbound Carefree Highway bridge over Cave Creek. While active construction will take place on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., the eastbound roadway will be reduced to one lane continuously through the end of June.

The bridge and roadway work (MB2603) will add transition slabs and compression joints to each side of the eastbound bridge. The transition slabs will reduce the need for future repairs at the transition point between the bridge and the roadway.

Crews will work on one eastbound lane at a time, allowing traffic to use the other lane. Eastbound delays are possible, while there will be no impact on westbound lanes. Lane restrictions will be in place continuously until the work is complete.

Drivers are asked to slow down and obey traffic signs in the work zone for the safety of workers and other drivers. Please plan for delays and allow for extra travel time eastbound through June 30, 2026.
