12th St and Carefree Highway Drainage Improvement

Project #: MW2506

Project Description

New River Erosion Repair

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will install grouted riprap (a blend of rock material and concrete) and perform other work to reduce stormwater erosion effects on 12th street just south of Carefree Highway. The riprap will ease the flow of water to prevent erosion impacts. Drivers should plan for temporary daytime lane closures and possible delays in the immediate work zone. Flagging operations will be in place to help direct traffic while work is underway. Construction begins on Monday, June 15 and continues through the end of June 2026.

The project includes:

  • Installing grouted riprap.
  • Replacing stormwater pipes as needed.
  • Grading the area.
  • Cleaning up the work zone and other miscellaneous work.

Please allow for extra time for travel as there can be delays during construction. Please watch for work crews, obey all traffic control signs and slow down in the work zone.
