Happy Valley Road and El Granada Blvd Intersection Improvement

Project #: TT0745

Project Description

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is planning intersection improvements at El Granada Boulevard and Happy Valley Road. Due to the high traffic volumes along Happy Valley Road and planned developments south of the intersection, a traffic study indicated that intersection improvements meets some national warrants.

Construction for this project TT0745 is anticipated to begin in early 2027.

In late spring 2025, the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) began a maintenance project, MO2504, to widen eastbound Happy Valley Road from El Granada Boulevard to approximately 1,000 feet west of the intersection. Crews also reconstructed the median and applied new asphaltic concrete and roadway striping. MCDOT installed temporary stop signs to the intersection to aid with traffic flow entering Happy Valley Road from El Granada Boulevard. The MO2504 work was completed in late June 2025.

The project MO2504 was the first step in a series of efforts MCDOT is working on to improve traffic flow and operations along Happy Valley Road. A traffic signal warrant study recently completed in September 2025 determined that a three-way traffic signal is needed at the intersection. Funding has already been allocated for this improvement, and MCDOT is fast-tracking the project design. Construction to convert the existing three-way stop into a signalized intersection is anticipated to begin in early 2027.
