Southern Avenue, 51st Avenue to 37th Lane

Project Description

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation is planning to improve the roadway on two miles of Southern Avenue, from 51st Avenue to 37th Lane, to accommodate increasing traffic.

Planned improvements include:

• New traffic signals, to include a high-intensity activated crosswalk signal at 41st Avenue.
• Two lanes for each direction of travel, and dedicated turn lanes at various locations.
• New concrete sidewalks, driveways, curbs and gutters.
• Dedicated bike lanes and median landscaping.
• Improved street lighting.
• New striping and pavement markings.

Presently, utility relocations are underway in the project area to prepare for construction, targeted for summer 2026.
