Gavilan Peak Parkway and King Drive Intersection Improvements
Project #: TT0662
Project Description
A new traffic signal and other improvements are planned to be constructed by the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) at the intersection of Gavilan Peak Parkway and King Drive in the Anthem area north of Phoenix. This project was initiated after traffic studies determined that the existing intersection needed to be upgraded to serve population growth and help traffic flow more smoothly on Gavilan Peak Parkway.
In June 2024, MCDOT selected a design recommendation for this intersection, one which involves a new traffic signal and changes to the medians at this location to accommodate turning lanes.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Utility investigations are underway in the project area, along with intersection design adjustments and clearances in preparation for construction. While the intersection construction is targeted to start in early 2028 there may be project staff periodically in the area conducting investigations in preparation for construction.
Planned improvements within the project limits include:
- Installing a new traffic signal.
- Changing medians by removing the existing medians on King Drive and reducing the size of the medians on Gavilan Peak Parkway.
- Updating the existing Americans with Disabilities (ADA) ramps to current requirements.
- Installing new asphalt.
- Striping the roadway.
- Cleaning up and miscellaneous finishing work.
