Broadway Road Bridges at Tempe Canal

Project #: TT0557

Project Description

Beginning September 2025, the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will be replacing the bridges over the Tempe Canal just east of Loop 101 on Broadway Road. The existing two bridges, which are nearing the end of useful life, are being replaced with a single bridge that will carry both directions of traffic.

Traffic will be allowed through the work zone during construction; however travel lanes will be restricted and occasional road and driveway closures in the construction zone can be anticipated. This project will be underway until spring 2026.

The project includes:

  • Removing and rebuilding bridge structures located over the Salt River Project Tempe Canal
  • Removing and replacing pavement with new asphalt
  • Applying new roadway striping
  • Completing minor work items associated with project construction.

Construction began in September. It is advised for drivers to allow for extra time for travel in the area as lane restrictions and reduced speed requirements will be in place. Please watch for work crews, obey all traffic control signs and slow down in the work zone.
