Ellsworth Road and Pueblo Avenue Intersection Improvements

Project #: TT0646

Project Description

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) project to improve the signal at Ellsworth Road and Pueblo Avenue has reached final design. This project, which began in 2019, determined that the current two-way stop intersection warranted a new traffic signal installation based on traffic volumes, community feedback and on-site observation. The new design is intended to deliver long-term benefits by supporting existing and future traffic flow in the area and includes modifying drainage facilities within the project limits. Because the project has reached the final design phase, no changes to the proposed work are anticipated.

The projected improvements include:

  • Widening Pueblo Avenue, between Ellsworth Road and 91st Street to accommodate an eastbound left-turn lane.
  • Altering access adjacent to the new signal by closing direct access at Pueblo and 92nd Street to accommodate signal installation and reduce conflicts for vehicles at the intersection.
  • Installing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements within in the project area by building ADA curbs and ramps to all four sides of the intersection of Ellsworth Road and Pueblo Avenue.
  • Replacing the open drainage channel in the project limits to an underground storm drainpipe at the same locations to maintain drainage requirements.

What’s next: The project is completing the final design phase and is anticipated to begin construction fall of 2026.
