Agua Fria Dr and Pleasant Valley Rd Drainage Improvement
Project #: MW2607
Project Description
The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will be installing valley gutters along Pleasant Valley Road on approach to, and at the intersection of Agua Fria Drive in Sun City. Valley gutters are shallow concrete channels designed to collect and divert stormwater from intersections or other low points and are intended to reduce ponding at this location.
Agua Fria Drive will remain open; however, direct access to Pleasant Valley Road from Agua Fria Drive will be closed continuously to allow for construction. Drivers may use Ridgeview Road as an alternative, and detour signage will be in place to assist with travel.
Project construction and closures at Pleasant Valley Road will begin on Monday, January 26th through early March, 2026. It is advised to allow for extra time for travel in the area due to restrictions in place. Please watch for work crews, obey traffic control signs and avoid construction areas. Access to properties will be maintained at all times during the project.
The project includes:
- Constructing valley gutters within MCDOT right-of-way along Agua Fria Drive at Pleasant Valley Road
- Removing and replacing the existing sidewalk and curb and gutter at the intersection
- Installing an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramp at the intersection
- Cleaning up the work zone, with related finishing work

Schedule is subject to change for reasons beyond MCDOT’s control, including weather, equipment failure, illness or other circumstances.
