Lane Widening west of El Granada Blvd on Happy Valley Road

Project #: MO2504

Project Description

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) advises drivers to plan ahead for potential travel delays during roadway construction occurring on eastbound Happy Valley Road from El Granada Boulevard to approximately 1,000 feet west of the intersection, beginning on Monday, May 12 through late June 2025. The work includes widening the eastbound lane to create a second lane of travel and reconstructing the median within the project limits. This project will assist with traffic flow in the area and improve turning movements at the intersection of Happy Valley Road and El Granada Boulevard.

The project includes:

  • Widening the roadway to provide a second eastbound lane on Happy Valley Road from El Granada Boulevard to approximately 1,000 feet west of the intersection.
  • Reconstructing the median within the project limits, including adjustments at the intersection of Happy Valley Road and El Granada Boulevard.
  • Installing No Parking signs in the county right-of-way in the area of improvement.
  • Applying new asphalt, roadway striping, and other associated finishing work.

This project is the first step in a series of efforts MCDOT is working on to improve traffic flow and operations along Happy Valley Road. Following construction, a traffic study will be conducted to determine if the temporary stop signs should remain in place while MCDOT begins the scoping process for a more permanent solution to improve access to Happy Valley Road at the intersection with El Granada Boulevard. The current three-way stop will remain in place while MCDOT is conducting the traffic study.

The rapid growth in western Maricopa County requires a concerted effort to respond to traffic needs. MCDOT is dedicated to working with residents to provide transportation connections that improve people’s lives. We will provide you with an update regarding the traffic study and the interim stop signs once we have completed the traffic study.
