Slurry Preservation Seal, Sun City & Sun City West

Project #: MS2501

Project Description

Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) crews are conducting pavement preservation work on seven miles of 99th Avenue in Sun City, from Olive Avenue to Willow Creek Circle, just south of Beardsley Road, from Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, until the end of the year. Workers are performing the work in sections, starting at Olive Avenue and proceeding north.

Access to properties and 99th Avenue will be maintained during construction, however, drivers may experience delays as equipment passes driveways and intersections. During these times, flaggers or a pilot car will lead drivers through the construction zone.

The improvements on 99th Avenue will complete Phase One of pavement preservation work in the area.

Phase Two begins Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, on 2.5 miles of Bell Road, between 114th Avenue and Burns Drive. This will be overnight work, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times.

Phase Three work will be conducted on 2.25 miles of R.H. Johnson Boulevard from U.S. 60/Grand Avenue to Meeker Boulevard in Sun City West. Advance warning signs will be in place to alert drivers of the upcoming work.

Project completion of all three phases is anticipated for late December 2024.

The work will include applying slurry seal to existing asphalt concrete pavement, striping work and pavement markings and other miscellaneous work and cleanup. The project will extend the life of these roadways, renew the surfaces, seal cracks and protect the roads from UV rays.
